The images in two of my paintings “Evolution I” and “Evolution II” present such a family coming out of nowhere. For this reason I created a virtual sky, and while most of us think dinosaurs belong to the past I feel they are coming from the future. Imagine these huge dinosaurs giving us a peek into our modern world.

In these works I create the doors to experience another virtual world.

My idea is to design a web page and to place these videos on a 3D plane using Papervision3D and Flex. I want the user to trigger the planes with the mouse and tween them back and forward. Alternativelly, redirect the camera to focus on different planes; This will show a nice HD player with the dimensions of 503×301px which is also the latest YouTube HD player size.

Basically, I concentrate on two main functions which require the latest Flash Player 10:

1. Tweening planes backward and forward;

2. To configure the video player controls;

The planes must stay in two curved lines. The user can click on thumbnails to manipulate the videos to come back and forward.

Can be a good idea to write everybody’s names on the end of the song; Dan, CJ, Marcus and Dave. I can perhaps animate each name and show four short sequences of everybody in a separate window.

If I have to use this effect of separate windows on the end of this clip, I would probably look for a few high resolution sequences.  A few seconds of best quality footage will not mess up the soundtrack synchronization. Nobody will notice the difference and this will replace the dark parts on the final part.

I asked my Portuguese friend, Nuno, to help me operate the second DV camera for which I used a tripod.  I gave him specific instructions in using the video camera and adviced not to move the camera around, unless the Mayor of Bournemouth had really gone out of the picture. The big windows inside the cathedral allowed the light to come through which enabled me to have quality footage.

In this example I will load different videos using an XML file. I will create a dynamic video player and thumbnail images for each video which can be configured from this XML file. The images and video files are stored externally in separate folders. Add a list of videos and only update one single file in any text editor.

Joda Cema promo

For the Joda Cema project we had an important meeting two weeks before the concert to discuss the storyboard and define the character of their musical video. They were planning to launch their new album and were looking forward to recording a CD and making a demo for promotional purposes.
I am going to mention some of the worst technical problems experienced in the making of this video which explains why it is so dark. There was enough light for them to put on a tremendous concert and the audience loved dancing in the midst of the multi-coloured flashing lights, but unfortunately this lighting was not adequate to be able to capture all that one would like on film.

I was aiming for HD quality and had used two cameras.  One camera remained stable, the other in my hand.  The camera movement, together with the lights, colours, and people can create that type of tension needed for a musical demo.

But this dark lighting had another adverse affect and consequently, I had to delete all the stable sequence shots from the concert evening.  See the demo  here.

I can’t forget my first impression on arriving at the Bournemouth airport two years ago with my computer packed in three big boxes.  They tore it apart to look inside for….. no idea what they were looking for.

Bournemouth is the home of Bournemouth University and the Art Institute. In these videos I try to capture the atmosphere, the pulse of downtown, the gardens area and the beach on a normal sunny day in March, 2009.
